White House Issues Further Changes to SHOP
Date: 12/05/2013
Last
week, the Obama administration announced that the federally administered Small
Business Health Insurance Options Program (SHOP) Exchange will not accept online
enrollments for another year, at least until November 2014. In the interim,
small businesses can enroll in exchange-listed plans through an insurance agent
or broker, or directly with an issuer.
Currently
on the SHOP, small businesses can create profiles and view plan profiles, but
businesses cannot submit applications or receive rate quotes.
The
White House also communicated that businesses seeking the small business health
care tax credit no longer have to be certified by the government that they are
eligible for the tax credits before enrolling in a health plan. Instead, a
business will have to get the certification before filing its taxes.
We will provide you more
information about this as soon as possible.
